The stretch of tidal Thames past the Albert Embankment, in sight of the Houses of Parliament, needs no rod licence at all — one of the few places in the country you can fish for free. Eels and the occasional flounder are caught from the embankment wall at low tide, and it's a genuinely central-London spot, a few minutes' walk from Waterloo or Vauxhall.
